Summer Cohort Leagues 2020

With the new provincial COVID-19 guidelines for outdoor sport, EUPA is starting to run some ultimate frisbee again! We want to make sure we can play together safely, so we’re making modifications to our usual formats and phasing in our launch of summer ultimate.

Note: We are currently gathering interest for starting single day cohorts (Tuesday or Thursday).

PLEASE READ THIS ALL CAREFULLY.

General details

  • 32 registrants per cohort plus 2 ambassadors.
    • 4 mixed gender teams of 8, 4 teams in a cohort.
  • Cohorts will be launched once we have the registration numbers to support them.
  • Please note that any cohort leagues may be cancelled with limited notice.

Format

  • 4v4 (possible to flex depending on numbers)
  • Pulls and subs between points
  • Within each cohort, teams will be made via a “pod” system.
    • Pods will consist of 3 players. Pods are not required to be on the field at the same time but they will always be on the same team.
    • We will attempt to place buddy registrants in the same pod together. This is not guaranteed, and pods may be altered based on available space or for balancing skill.
    • Every few weeks, pods will be shuffled between teams for balance.
    • Each pod will gain a point every time their team wins a game.
    • The pod that has accumulated the most points by the end of the league will win the league.
    • The pod that has accumulated the most spirit nominations by the end of the league will win a spirit prize.

Location

  • Cohorts may play at locations around the city.

Cost

  • The final cost for registration will depend on the number of nights played. All cohort leagues cost $5 per night played.
  • All registrations will include a 2020 disc.
  • In the event of a cancellation after play has started, no refunds will be issued. A credit for registration in a future league may be issued.

Precautions

  • All leagues are being run in a cohort structure as per the June 12 Provincial Guidelines for Organized Sports.
    • Players can be a part of at most one sports cohort of up to 50 people at a time.
    • If a player cannot attend, subs in their place will not be allowed. The participation in multiple sports cohorts (without physical distancing during play) at the same time is not allowed.
    • Within their cohort, physical distancing & masks will not be used while actively playing. While not playing (e.g. when on the sideline, putting on cleats, etc.), physical distancing of 2m should be observed.
    • Keeping to these cohorts does not negate the need to practice good sanitation and hygiene (see guidelines below).
    • Any spectators or family members who are not part of the cohort MUST practice physical distancing if they come to a league event.
    • A two week break without participation in any sport cohort and without COVID-19 symptoms is required before switching cohorts.
    • Participating in a cohort league increases your risk of exposure to COVID-19. The cohort league structure merely limits the potential for spread in case of exposure. If you or people in your cohort family are part of particularly vulnerable groups (e.g. are seniors, have respiratory illness, or are immunocompromised), we discourage participation in our cohort leagues.
  • Two Ambassadors will be assigned to each cohort to oversee compliance with safety guidelines. Ambassadors will have a coloured armband to indicate their role. Ambassadors will play, but are primarily responsible for overseeing conduct.
  • All participants must follow our safety guidelines.
    • Attendance will be taken upon arrival at each field. You must check in before playing or otherwise breaking physical distancing (including warming up with others). If you arrive late, you must check in with the Ambassador at your game before playing.
    • Ambassadors will bring game discs, scoreboards, and sanitizer.
      • Game discs and scoreboards will be sanitized before being brought, and again upon the conclusion of play.
      • Game discs will be replaced at halftime.
      • Ambassadors or someone they nominate should be the only participants to adjust the scoreboards.
      • Players may bring a disc, but these discs can only be used to warm up. Discs must be washed thoroughly with soap and water or otherwise sanitized both before and after bringing them from home.
    • Whenever not actively playing on the field, keep physically distant and practice good hygiene.
      • Keep 2m of distance between players on the sidelines and when getting ready.
      • Cover coughs and sneezes (using the inside of your elbow is recommended). If you blow your nose, cough or sneeze into your hand, or use a tissue, you must sanitize your hands.
      • No handshakes or other celebratory contact.
      • No sharing of water, clothing, or other equipment.
      • Come as ready to play as possible: cleats (and gloves) should be the only equipment you need to put on.
    • Players must follow AHS isolation requirements, and remember that failure to do so could have legal ramifications.
      • If you have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, excessive fatigue, altered sense of taste or smell, or flu-like muscle or joint pain that is not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition, you must isolate and not participate in our programming for 10 days.
        • The mandatory isolation period is 10 days from the start of symptoms, or until symptoms resolve, whichever takes longer.
      • If you tested negative and have:
        • known exposure to COVID-19, you are legally required to isolate for 14 days.
        • no known exposure to the virus, you are not legally required to isolate.
        • If any of the above symptoms develop, even after a negative test, you must self-isolate and not participate in our programming for 10 days or until symptoms resolve fully.
      • You are legally required to isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms if you are a close contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 (provides care, lives with or has close physical contact without appropriate use of personal protective equipment, or comes into direct contact with infectious body fluids). If you become sick with cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat during this time, you must isolate for an additional 10 days from the beginning of symptoms or until you are feeling well, whichever takes longer.
      • If you or one of your close contacts test positive for COVID-19, you must follow the directions of the AHS representatives who contact you and immediately notify us by emailing admin@eupa.ca.

A failure to follow these guidelines or the instructions of Ambassadors could result in removal from the cohort league.

  • We recommend all our players use the ABTraceTogether app when leaving their place of residence.
  • We recommend all our players complete the AHS asymptomatic COVID-19 self test prior to participating in our cohort leagues to ensure you are not bringing the virus into the league as an asymptomatic carrier.

Registration

  • Registration for the waiting list is now open.
  • Registration for cohort leagues is first come first serve using a waitlist to manage spots.
    • Note: Register for our waitlist to indicate interest in a single-day cohort. Once we have enough interest to run a cohort league, we will open cohort league registration to waitlisted registrants.
    • Anyone interested in playing in a cohort league will start by signing up onto our waitlist.
    • Indicate your preferred night of play when registering.
    • Spots in potential future cohorts will be filled by waitlist position; registration spots will only be released as a full cohort and as we are able to manage the precautions around opening new cohorts.
  • List up to 2 buddies when registering. Maximum 2 of the same gender per group of 3.
    • Cohorts will be filled from the waitlist, but we will look to put buddy groups into pods to play together on teams if they are in the same cohort.
    • There are no guarantees for placement with your listed buddies; they may not make it into the same cohort, or we may need to change buddies for team balance.
  • Once you are through the waitlist and are registering for a cohort league, you will have to sign several agreements in order to complete your registration. While not required to join the waitlist, they are presented here for your information.
    • COVID-19 Waiver, Attestation, and Release of Liability
    • EUPA Amateur Athletic Waiver
    • I agree that the EUPA Cohort League I am registering for is the only sporting cohort I am or will participate in at one time. If I want to change sport cohorts, I will take 14 symptom free days away from sports before switching cohorts.
    • If I develop a cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, excessive fatigue, altered sense of taste or smell, or flu-like muscle or joint pain that is not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition, I agree to stay home and abstain from participation in EUPA’s programming for 10 days or until symptoms resolve, whichever is later.
    • If I or one of my close contacts test positive for COVID-19, I will follow the directions of the AHS representatives who contacted me and immediately notify EUPA by emailing admin@eupa.ca.

To stay connected with EUPA and make sure you don't miss new league or tournament announcements, sign up for our mailing list or follow us on social media! You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or in our Facebook group.

If you have any questions, please email admin@eupa.ca.

I have read the above information regarding league format and safety precautions, and I would like to play in a cohort league and abide by the precautions.

I will be contacted via the email address listed in my EUPA account. This email is up to date.
