EUPA Clinics

Upcoming Clinics:

Throughout the year, EUPA runs several clinics to help players of all levels develop their skills. Your EUPA membership gets you free access to clinics. EUPA runs clinics that are tailored to different levels and types of player. If your team is looking for more one-on-one coaching, check out our Community Coaching Program.

  • Women's "Train & Play" Clinics
    • Who: Anyone who is female or feminine-identifying is welcome! These clinics are particularly targeted to players who are new to Ultimate or want to increase their success on the field.
    • When: We've got a few upcoming clinics!
    • Where: Commonwealth Rec Centre, Field House (11000 Stadium Road NW)
    • What: Participants will learn the fundamentals of the game, improve their skills, and get a chance to practice and play in a friendly scrimmage situation. These clinics are a great opportunity to learn throwing technique and field strategy.
      • Be sure to wear comfortable athletic clothing, bring clean soft studded cleats or running shoes, and a water bottle.
    • Cost: Free with your 2020 EUPA Membership!
  • Open "Train & Play" Clinics
    • Who: Everyone is welcome! These clinics are particularly targeted to players who are new to Ultimate or want to increase their success on the field.

NCCP Coaching Course:

The Alberta Ultimate Association (AUA) will be hosting a Level 1 NCCP (Ultimate COMPETITION) course in Calgary this winter.

The clinic is designed to give coaches a better understanding of the athlete’s learning process so that they become comfortable running an Ultimate competitive program. This course is suitable for:

  1. High school programs
  2. Competitive junior programs
  3. Developmental adult teams programs (Ultimate Canada)

Overview of the NCCP Level I (Ultimate COMPETITION) course:

  • Key details:
    • Classroom and on-field instruction over 2 days (14 hours)
    • Status obtained at the end of this workshop: coach “in-training”
      • Note: to become fully “trained”, coaches must complete the multisport modules: “Making Ethical Decisions (MED)” and “Planning a Practice (PAP)”
  • Learning points: (from Ultimate Canada)
    • What a Competition Coach should know (Rules, SOTG)
    • Defining learning & understanding learning styles
    • Key factors in assessing the effectiveness of coaches
    • Components of effective learning using Ultimate skills
    • Different approaches to teaching skills
    • Running an Ultimate specific drill, and planning a new activity
  • Cost: $150+GST/person
    • Coach minimum prerequisites: 16 years of age (CPR and First Aid are recommended)
    • Minimum participants: 8
    • Maximum participants: 20
    • EUPA community reimbursement:
      • EUPA Members in good standing and residing in the Edmonton area are eligible for an immediate $75 discount. Please contact admin@eupa.ca for details.
      • Course participants who complete and submit 3 hours of coaching in the Edmonton Ultimate community (e.g. clinics, Fallout, youth programming, school coaching) by Sept 30, 2020 are eligible for a further $75 reimbursement. Hours submitted for reimbursement will be inelegible for EUPA's Volunteer Incentive Program.
      • Any additional training as required or offered by NCCP will not be reimbursed or covered by EUPA.
      • This discount/reimbursement model will be in effect for any AUA-organized NCCP coaching course between Oct 1, 2019 and Sept 30, 2020.
