Starting a Team

Historically, most players who participate in the School Spring Championship are fairly new to Ultimate. We encourage teams of all levels of experience to sign up and are happy to provide support with starting a new team.

Recommended Team Size

  • Grade 5 & 6 Division - Teams of 10 to 12 players are recommended
    • Games will be played 5-on-5, co-ed. We understand that recruiting players can be challenging and are flexible to adjust gender ratios for play based on team rosters.
  • Junior High Division - Teams of 10 to 12 players are recommended
    • Games will be played 5-on-5, co-ed. We understand that recruiting players can be challenging and are flexible to adjust gender ratios for play based on team rosters.
  • Senior High Division - Teams of 14 to 16 players are recommended
    • Games will be played 7-on-7, co-ed. At any one time, you can have max four of one gender on the field.

Pre-Tournament Practices

The amount of pre-tournament practice for teams is always very weather dependent. We recommend aiming for at least 3 practices (1/week) leading up to the tournament to cover some basics with your players. Practicing for longer and multiple times a week also will help your team be successful.

If you need some support with coaching and instruction, please email youthdirector@eupa.ca or juniors@eupa.ca and we will work to get you connected with a local coach who can help your team learn the game!
