How many players should I have on my team?

Tuesday & Thursday League: We recommend 14-16 players on a team, 6-7 female and 8-9 male. Games are played 7-on-7 with a 3:4 or 4:3 gender ratio (offense calls). We recommend that you aim for two full lines of players, plus maybe an extra so if someone is missing a week you aren't short on subs. That being said if you know a few of your players will be gone a bunch in the summer having more on your roster doesn't hurt, we have no maximum in our league.

You must have at least 10 player on your team, with a minimum of 4 per gender. If your team registers with under 14 players, the league may look to add individual players to your team.

Wednesday League: We recommend 10-12 players when registering a full team, 4-5 female and 6-7 male. Games are played 5-on-5 with 2:3 or 3:2 gender ratio (offense calls). We recommend that you aim for two full lines of players, plus maybe an extra so if someone is missing a week you aren't short on subs. That being said if you know a few of your players will be gone a bunch in the summer having more on your roster doesn't hurt, we have no maximum in our league.

You must have at least 8 players on your team, with a minimum of 3 per gender. If you are not able to register a full team, we do offer small group, partner and individual registration for our Wednesday League.

What is a Spirit Captain?

Return to top of page

Continuing with our Spirit of the Game program, we will be asking that each team selects a Spirit Captain for their team. This player will be asked to attend a Spirit Captains meeting on April 30th where we will talk a bit about what the league expects in terms of Spirit of the Game and rules knowledge from each team.

The type of person who should be a Spirit Captain

Captains and Spirit Captains work together to develop an increased understanding of SOTG and its importance to the sport of Ultimate for their league teams. A Spirit Captain should be cool headed, play fair, and have a good understanding of the rules of Ultimate. Ideally the person has played a few seasons, is respected by teammates, and is a role model for others in terms of game etiquette, and fair, fun play.

A Spirit Captain’s role on their team

The EUPA ‘Spirit Captain’ is responsible for assisting their team’s Captain in upholding their team’s Spirit and how it is interpreted by the opposing teams. They are expected to shake hands during the flip with other captains to introduce themselves.  If an unresolvable disagreement arises during the game the Spirit Captain should either: provide the rule that is needed (or know how to look it up in the rules), or talk with the other Spirit Captain to determine the most fair outcome and restart the game. If there are players on your team that are being un-spirited, it is the responsibility of the Captain and Spirit Captain to talk to them and encourage them to change their attitude for the good of your team.

If my team is short on players one week, who can I get to sub/how can I find a sub?

Return to top of page

It is perfectly acceptable to get a sub for regular season games. All subs must have a valid 2017 EUPA membership, and if players pick up for for more than 5 weeks throughout the season they will be expected to register on your team and pay the $85 league fee.

To find a sub we recommend using the EUPA Member's Facebook group.
